Complex Litigation
Hare Wynn has a team of lawyers that focus on complex litigation, an umbrella that includes class actions, mass torts, and commercial disputes. These cases involve significant damage totals and often present novel legal questions. Discovery may involve dozens of depositions, review of hundreds of thousands of documents, and disclosure of teams of experts. Litigation may require extensive briefing and motion practice, one or more trials, and appeals. Needless to say, such complex litigation can require thousands of hours of work from multiple attorneys over a period of several years.
Hare Wynn has extensive experience handling such complex litigation. Some recent examples include In re Syngenta AG MIR162 Corn Litigation (MDL 2591), where a Hare Wynn lawyer served as co-lead counsel. Several Hare Wynn lawyers spent years working on this litigation that involved hundreds of depositions (some taking place as far away as Hong Kong and London), production and review of millions of pages of documents, and a multi-week trial. Those efforts led to a $1.51 billion settlement. As another recent example, Hare Wynn, in environmental litigation that went on for two decades, obtained a settlement with 3M and other defendants under which those defendants agreed to spend hundreds of millions of dollars remediating environmental contamination in North Alabama. A few years ago, the states of Alaska, Montana, and Kentucky hired Hare Wynn to pursue claims against a pharmaceutical company for violation of state consumer protection laws. Over the last few years, Hare Wynn’s complex litigation team has represented hundreds of retired coal miners who are pursuing product liability claims against the manufacturers of defective safety equipment.
Although most of Hare Wynn’s clients are individuals, Hare Wynn is also able to represent businesses on a contingent fee basis when they have been injured through a breach of contract, fraud, or have otherwise been wronged.
